Spring – Netherlands part 2

As Spring 2020 carried on, the EU slowly began unfurling some restrictions. We discovered an abundance of beauty unfurling from winter’s harsh winds and enjoyed the well planned, carefully maintained beauty of the Netherlands.

week 5 – Giethoorn

Proclaimed as the “Venice of the Netherlands”, there are more canals and boats in this village than cars and roads. The idyllic setting gives visitors an easy snap shot of the Dutch lifestyle between land and water.

week 6 – Texel Island

Snap shot of Netherlands on an island day trip… We rode the loop around Texel Island, visited the National Park Dunes and experienced the tulip fields in all their glory. A group of wooden e-bicycles passed us by and we chased them down on our h-bicycles to get their photos!

week 8 – Lauwersmeer National Park

This area is one of the International Dark Sky Association parks and a famous bird watching sanctuary.

Now, the spring days are rolling into summer.  The days are long with Sunrise at 5:00 am and Sunset at 10:00 pm!  We are departing the Netherlands this week, riding from Utrecht to the Hook of Holland port and taking an overnight P & O ferry to Hull, England.  We will have to quarantine for two weeks upon crossing the UK border and then we hope to ride along Hadrian’s Wall on our way to Scotland.  Too many of the EU borders are still limiting access and we feel that this is not the right time to tackle eastern Europe.
