Once again our 90 days in the Schengen countries was upon us. We needed to depart Italy before a full lock down was imposed. So, in Ancona, we boarded the overnight Jadrolinija ferry for an early morning arrival in Split, Croatia with required negative tests and receipt for two weeks booked. The waterfront sunrise and the 10 mile ride along the coast to a studio apartment in Kaštela gave us a wonderful first impression of Croatia…. Over 1,000 islands decorate the scenic coastline!
We are spending December in the Kaštela area, amongst small fishing villages dating back to the 1400s. The stormy coast and churning waters made our first days exciting as winter’s winds were pushing in. We will have lots of day trip exploring in the month ahead.
Split
Split and Trogir have layers of Roman, Ottoman and Venetian fortifications, palaces and cathedrals knit together by ancient winding alley ways.
Ho ho ho!
Trogir and Split share a beautiful, modern airport…

Trogir
Due west of Split, Trogir is a fortress city in a bottle neck. The waterfront fortresses and docks have survived centuries of conquests. Today’s docks host fleets of yachts and promote a lifestyle of sun and fun. We met an Australian couple living on their yacht during the pandemic, also navigating the border controls, quarantines and PCR tests.
Hop on over to Croatia part 2…
