Still traveling through roads of history and learning more about these lands of our forefathers. As incoming tourists, we were required to file a negative Covid test and could not use public transportation, We had to drive across the spine of Italy from the port to Ascoli Piceno. After returning the rental car, we found a place to stay a few days on the Adriatic coast. We spent November in the Abruzzo region of Italy enjoying a few medieval villages and the autumn hillsides busy with harvesting olives.
Ascoli Piceno
Our next Trusted Petsitters project was in a small hillside village. A simple farm house graced with a lovely willow tree and surrounded by groves of olive trees and vineyards. We watched autumn surround us in a peaceful slumber. We learned about fording a river, if we went into town directly down the hill! Otherwise it was straight up to take the road around the valley.
Day trip: Civitella del Tronto
Day trip: Campli
Adriatic coast
After the farm stay, we continued riding along the beautiful coastline to Pescara.
Ancona
After a simple Thanksgiving meal shared with our family via Zoom, we hopped a train to the ancient port in Ancona. Due to lockdowns, we had to travel through Italy’s locked down regions “with a reason” — time to depart the EU — and tickets for the overnight ferry to Split, Croatia.
